Felix Thorn's Art Assault

by James Knight July 17, 2010

Felix Thorn is a 24-year-old from Brighton who builds audio-visual sculptures. With them, he plays his take on techno while they trigger an LED light show. In his own words, he aims to “facilitate music by translating rhythmic audio structures into a three-dimensional visual show”. So there you go.

Felix has been on site since Wednesday, setting up his machines in the reception area to allow you guys a unique, site-specific audio visual overload while you queue to get in. How good are we to you? You even get assaulted by art while you check you coats.

The Creators Project: Hey Felix, you’ve installed your machines in a good few spaces now, how are you finding our registration area?
Felix Thorne
: It’s got a nice high ceiling that creates a nice echo and I’m very happy with the acoustics. In terms of the visuals, all my stuff is triggered LEDs, so it’s kind of hard to tell what they’ll look like. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how it looks once it gets dark tonight.

What is special about today’s performance?
Well, I have created a completely original composition for today and I’ve allowed spaces for improvisation, so I’ll be interacting with the machines all night. It’s not a case of pressing a button and leaving. If things don’t go according to plan, then it’s just a case of me adapting on the fly.

What are you excited about checking out?
I’ve literally been so busy setting up I’ve hardly had a chance to look round, so I’m looking forward to having a look around when I get a moment.
